For One More Day4/4/08

A Special Message from Mitch about For One More Day

Dear Friends –

The paperback edition of “For One More Day” has just been published, something I wanted to share with you, because it is a day of great happiness for me. I am as proud of this book as any I have written, as proud as I was when “Tuesdays With Morrie” or “The Five People You Meet In Heaven” found their audiences.

“For One More Day’ was inspired by my own mother and my own childhood, and tells the tale of a broken man who has reached the end of his rope, only to magically discover, in his most despairing hour, that fate has given him one extra day with a loved one.

The idea came from a sudden wave of sadness I felt when I realized my mother, approaching her 80’s, would not be around forever. What would I do when I couldn’t pick up the phone and have the regular conversations, the typical laughs, the gentle scoldings?

What I have found since “For One More Day” was published in hardcover is how many of you have had the same thoughts, and how many of you, like me, also yearn for one more day with someone dear.

I am always stunned at the size of the readership for my books – I can’t get past thinking I’ll need to hawk them from the back of my car – and while millions have already read “For One More Day”, the paperback signals the invitation to an even wider audience.

If you haven’t had the chance to read it, or were waiting for it in paperback, or if you enjoyed the “Oprah Winfrey Presents” movie last December with Ellen Burstyn and Michael Imperioli, then I invite you to share in this, one of my proudest stories.

I hope it finds a home in your heart.

Warmly,

Mitch Albom
